India’s Global Cement & Concrete Association (GCCA) has partnered with UK-based Xynteo’s Build Ahead coalitions to scale decarbonisation efforts across India鈥檚 construction value chain.
The partners have signed a memorandum of understanding which seeks to promote the use of low-carbon cement and concrete.
The two-year partnership will draw on GCCA India’s industry expertise and the collective efforts of the Build Ahead coalition.
GCCA India collaborates with the local cement and concrete industry, representing 80% of the country’s production capacity, to promote sustainable practices, guided by its to reach net zero emissions by 2025 with 2030 milestones.
The initiative will commence with the development of a green taxonomy and emission thresholds for cement and concrete, laying the groundwork for policy shaping in the production and use of low-carbon materials.
The exercise is critical for establishing nation-specific definitions and standards, addressing the immediate need for tailored guidelines in India’s unique construction landscape.
