Galliford Try Building East Midlands has commenced the second phase of construction at Milton Keynes University Hospital in the UK, focusing on an £8.25m ($10.94m) multistorey car park.

The company completed enabling works in 2021, which included the transformation of an area into a split-level surface car park.

These initial works served the staff of the Angiography and Pathology Buildings at the site.

The new phase will add three levels to the existing surface car park’s foundations, increasing the total parking spaces to 491.

This development is set to enhance parking capacity and electric vehicle charging capabilities at the hospital.

Galliford Try Building East Midlands managing director Jon Marston said: “We are delighted to strengthen our relationship with Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Trust as we deliver on phase two of the multistorey car park.

“We look forward to seeing how this project will serve the community and contribute to the ongoing development of Milton Keynes University Hospital as a key healthcare provider in the region.”

Galliford Try’s Building North East and Yorkshire division has also celebrated the completion of Woodham Academy in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.

The new secondary school, funded by the UK Department for Education’s School Rebuilding Programme, has been handed over to the pupils and staff.

It features air-source heat pumps, solar panels, and a biodiverse green roof, among other eco-friendly elements.

The academy also has a four-lane swimming pool, sports hall, and fitness studio, which will be accessible to the Newton Aycliffe community outside school hours.

With the main building works finished, Galliford Try will now proceed to demolish the old school buildings and create new playing fields, a project expected to conclude by early 2025.

Galliford Try Building North East and Yorkshire managing director Cliff Wheatley said: “The School Rebuilding Programme is providing schools fit for the future and Galliford Try is proud to be involved in its delivery.

“The new buildings at Woodham Academy will be a real asset to the teachers, students and the surrounding community for years to come.”
